Hi, I'm Nancy, a full-time photographer + journalist based in Buffalo, New York, sought after locally and nationally for my artful style in editorial, events, and portraiture.
I love what I do. When I was seven I borrowed my dad’s camera, and began writing (poetry) in his basement office on an old typewriter, on the back of calendar samples he had for a side hustle selling promotional materials. During cold Buffalo winter days I’d stand on top of the desk and warm my hands around a lightbulb – and get back to typing. I thought I wanted to be a lawyer when I started college at University at Buffalo but pivoted to journalism/photography after a conversation with a mentor of mine who had taught me darkroom techniques, the zone/Zen system, and more when I was in high school. I’ve crafted a lifestyle career that began in college.
I’m what some refer to as an urban pioneer, based in the historic Old First Ward of the city. With an ever-positive attitude, clients frequently mention how they like working with me for my calm demeanor, creativity, and pleasant business style. As a trusted photo professional, I've been documenting and delivering happiness via beautiful pixels, and well-used adjectives, for decades.
In 2016 my business became a New York State-certified Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) and is listed on the NYS MWBE Directory: as a WBE partner, my expertise and designation helps companies and organizations meet contract goals. I studied with incredible mentors at University at Buffalo (I was an honors English Literature major with minors in Photography, and Arts Management). At Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. I earned a Master of Fine Arts in 2005 – part of the school's first-ever M.F.A. photography class of thirteen grad students.
Since 2018 I have been working in the cinematic world as a Set Photographer making stills, galleries (portraits of lead actors in the movie), and behind-the-scenes images. In this role I get to be both a creative and journalist, making images capturing storylines and selling movies. As a regular contributor to publications and websites that are all things Buffalo – University at Buffalo, Visit Buffalo Niagara, and Buffalo Spree Magazine – I’m in the electric flow of the 716. I’m a former concert reviewer, and lifestyles contributor for Buffalo News, a gig I loved very much but the paper no longer publishes live music reviews, or hires freelancers. I've won numerous awards for my photography and writing. I was a recipient of Buffalo Business First's 40 Under Forty award.
